October 17th… October 17th…

Chiaki was looking at the calendar on the wall. It doesn’t took him long to finally realize that October 17th is the day after tomorrow. Chiaki went pale after that. How could he have forgot such an important day!? Chiaki is now officially panic. Thought after thought is now rushing through his poor head. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, Tani Chiaki had totally forgot all about his Lord’s birthday.

“This is bad…” the poor boy mumbled to himself. Had Ryuunosuke and the others hadn’t mentioned about this particualar day, Chiaki afraid he wouldn’t have remember about all of this. Sure he got yelled at by Ryuunosuke and teased by Genta for forgetting such an important day, but it’s nothing really. What the ShinkenGreen was afraid of is how their Lord would react if he knew that his precious little Chiaki forgot his own birthday.


Yes, it isn’t really a secret that Takeru and Chiaki is now officially a pair of lovebirds. It all started since their first time being stuck together in the storage room alone. It was the Shiba clan’s annual spring cleaning event and the Lord insisted on helping with rearranging stuffs in the storage room despite the protests of Ryuunosuke and the Kurokos. Chiaki, on the other hand, was forced to tag along, to help and protect the Lord from untold dangers inside the storage room as Ryuunosuke put it. And not being on his tip top shapes, Chiaki tripped over some invisible things and fell. Luckily, Takeru was able to caught the boy due to his excellent reflexes so the boy was safe and sound.

But unfortunately (or fortunately, depends on how one sees things), the Wood Spear weilder managed to knock something into the door in the process of falling and so the two of them got stuck inside the storage room together. Yes, they did try to call out for help but it wasn’t really a good idea when everyone else was cleaning other parts of the inormous mansion while the storage room was located some where in the other direction of the main house. So basically, Takeru and Chiaki got stuck inside the storage room for almost five hours and when their fellow Shinkengers went to look for them, they found them inside the storage room together, cuddling, sleeping, with Chiaki’s head resting on Takeru’s shoulder and the Lord’s head on the other’s and a thin blanket drapped over their bodies for warmth.

The sight was no doubt a one-time-only thing then so Mako and Kotoha decided to took a picture of them sleeping as a memorial of the cute little inccident. And the two boys in subject tried to act oh-so-normal after waking up and pretend as if nothing happened. But as we all know, nothing can pass the eyes of a bunch of well-trained samurais.


Summer found our favorite samurais lying on the sunny beach of Japan. The weather was hotter than usual so Hikoma-jii had agreed to let them have a little vacation at the beach after defeating yet another Gedoushuu. The fight was fierce so of course everyone was enjoying their well deserved holiday. Well, almost everyone. Chiaki, in particular, was one of those who wasn’t in the mood for relaxation. The truth was that the boy got yelled yet again by Hikoma-jii for rushing into battle without looking which almost got himself killed.

“What do you think would’ve happened had the Lord not pushed you away!?” said the old man. He sounded as if it was entirely Chiaki’s fault. Well, for his information, if it wasn’t for Chiaki and his recklessness, the Gedoushuu wouldn’t have been distracted and the samurais wouldn’t have been able to win the battle! Sure Takeru did safe his life at some point, but even if he wasn’t there, Chiaki was sure that he could handle the blow himself, thank you very much! As to why did the Lord do that, Chiaki didn’t know, and surely didn’t care (or so he said). What mattered to him was no one understood him, he got scolded for his actions, much less praised. Moreover, his pride being torn apart by Takeru’s unnecessary action, which resulted in an all out fight with his Lord that night (well, he done most of the yelling, but hey, who cares).

“Stop it right now, Chiaki. If you insist on continuing this pointless fight of yours then you’re done. We don’t need someone irresponsible like you on the team.” Takeru said calmly but firmly. Although there’s a hint of something in his voice.

“Fine! Consider this as my resignment letter! I’m gone then!” With that, the boy stomped of into the night without even so much of a glance at the resort they were staying at.

At first, everyone thought that this was another of Chiaki’s annual tantrums that they was so used to. Even Kotoha and Genta thought that the Wood Spear weilder didn’t really meant what he said and would come back soon enough. But as life went on, the Shinkengers found out that their comrade was pretty serious about his declaration. Not answering the phone wasn’t the only thing that’s abnormal. And after two weeks, even the Lord himself got worried about the boy. Apparently, Takeru was wrong about not needing the brunette. It didn’t took him long to realize how important Chiaki was to him, not just as a vassal, a comrade, but as something else.

After what seems like a month had passed without so much of a call from the Kuma Origami weilder, the Shinkengers were practically went all out to look for the boy. Heck, even Hikoma-jii and the Kurokos went out to look for him! Even if they don’t show it, without Chiaki around, their little “family” wouldn’t feel… complete.

At first, they searched whole town for information of Chiaki but apparently, nobody knew where the boy was. The samurais, then, started to think out side of the box and gone to search for Chiaki at the outskirt of town but everything was in vain. They had practically done anything and everything they can, like putting up fliers, contact the police, EVERYTHING, in hope that Chiaki could somehow get their message and come back. But ALL was still in vain. No phone calls, no letters, no nothing! Things had gone pretty serious and everyone was dead worried for the boy.

Yes, EVERYONE, including Takeru himself. Wait, let me refrase this: everyone was dead worried for Chiaki, ESPECIALLY Takeru himself. Yes, even though he may not show it but Takeru was practically going crazy all over the whole thing. So when they finally found the boy lying on the ground in the forest to the far East of the town, badly injured, the usually cool and collected Lord practically gone insane and charged head-on at the God damn Gedoushuu the boy was obviously fighting alone with. No one, and he means NO ONE is allowed to lay a hand on his Chiaki! HIS CHIAKI! Yes, Shiba Takeru is insanely in love with Tani Chiaki.

Anyway, as everyone could have guessed, they defeated the Gedoushuu without much problem and when back to the mansion to get Chiaki treated and let the poor boy rest. Later that night, our favorite ShinkenGreen woke up to find his left hand being held tight by a sleeping Lord whose back is against the wall for support. The boy heard Takeru mumbled in his sleep: “Chiaki… Don’t scare me like that…” and apparently, all mistakes were forgiven. Chiaki once again let himself fell asleep, slightly blushing, hand still being held tightly by Takeru.


But Takeru’s feeling of love torward Chiaki wasn’t mutual then. They (mostly Chiaki) continued the rivalry though it wasn’t so bad as before. That is until one time in mid-July. Doukoku was very active at the time so the Gedoushuus’ power got increased much more than before. During one particular fight with a Gedoushuu, although the samurais finally succeeded in defeating it and delivered a severe blow to the army of Gedoushuus, the young Lord of the Shiba clan got injured badly and fell into a comma for three days straight. On the third day, Chiaki found himself sitting beside Takeru’s futon, staring at the Lord’s sleeping face.

It would be understandable that the poor boy was dead worry about the Lord’s well being. The wound that Takeru gotten during the fight was supposed to be Chiaki’s. The Lord used his own body cover for Chiaki, taking the nasty blow in order to protect the one he loves.

It was twelve when the other told him to go get some rest but Chiaki insisted on staying for a little while more, so now there were only the two of them inside Takeru’s room in the middle of the night. “Baka!” the boy said to the sleeping figure “I could’ve dodged the attack myself!”. Even though saying that, deep down Chiaki knew very well that without Takeru’s protection, he wouldn’t have survived the attack. But he’d never once thought that the Lord would throw himself out like that to protect him! Takeru was their Lord for God’s sake! If anything happened, it would be Chiaki protecting him as a vassal protecting his Lord, not vice versa!! Chiaki cursed himself for his uselessness in such situations.

“Why…? Why did you do it…? Why did you protect me?!” A single tear drop fell from the corner of his eye and landed on Takeru’s sleeping face. “I thought you hated me, Takeru! So why did you protect me!?” Chiaki refrained himself from yelling his painful heart out.

Another tear drop landed on the Lord’s face made him stir. Chiaki was taken a back when he felt a hand touching his face. Slowly, Takeru opened his eyes, a small smile casted upon his tired face. “I protected you because I wanted to, idiot.”

Chiaki gasped. “How long have you been awake??” He asked with a shaky voice.

“Long enough to heard what you said.” Finger brushed across the boy’s face, tracing up the wet lines the tears left behind.

Takeru tried to sit up but the still painful wound kept him from doing so. Chiaki rushed to his side and helped him to sit up, back against the wall behind him for support. “Please, don’t push yourself, Takeru! You should lie down and rest!” Chiaki said. Takeru could easily saw the worry and tireness in his voice. Takeru is greatful for that.

“Seriously! You shouldn’t have done that! You could’ve been killed! How could you be so reckless, stupid!? You--!” The boy’s ramble was on and on and Takeru wasn’t really in the mood for hearing those things so he decided to silence him with a kiss on the lips.

Chiaki was once again taken a back. It took a while before the poor boy finally came to his sense after Takeru pulled away. “Wha—What happened…?”

“I kissed you, idiot.” Takeru said so casually. A small smirk can be seen on the young Lord’s face at the same time.

“Wha—What!? Ki—Kiss!?” Chiaki gone pale. His mine is still processing what just happened. The poor boy is now the color of a rose with every possible shades of red. He tried to punch Takeru unconsciously but his hand was stopped by Takeru’s. The Lord took this to his advance and pulled Chiaki into a tight hug and gave him a chaste kiss.

“Listen Chiaki. I love you. So don’t ever think of leaving my side for one sec because I won’t ever let it happen.” At this, Chiaki didn’t need to look at Takeru’s face to know that the young Lord was dead serious about what he said. And just like that, love creept it way into Chiaki’s heart and the boy had no choice but to accept this new feeling.

They stayed hugging each other silently just like that in the middle of the night, not knowing the present of five pairs of eyes watching this sweet moment through the slightly opened doorway.


Yes, beautiful isn’t it? The love story of Shiba Takeru and Tani Chiaki. But let’s get back to reality, Chiaki’s problem still remain unsolved. Or at least that’s what we thought. A spark suddenly appeared in the boy’s mind.

Later that night, after the Lord’s birthday party, everyone went back to their rooms and Genta back to his sushi cart. Takeru was ready to get some rest when he heard a knock on his door. “Come in.” he said. The door opened, revealed a blushing Chiaki. Takeru smiled upon seeing his lover and motioned for the boy to come sit on his laps. Chiaki did what he was told to do and went to his Lord’s side after closing the door.

“What brings you here tonight?” Takeru asked, brushing a single strand of brown hair out of the brunette’s face and tucked behind his ear.

Chiaki didn’t say anything. The boy did a very bold move instead and kissed the older man. Takeru was surprised at first but quickly returned the kiss and made it deeper. When they finally pulled away for the much needed air, Chiaki only managed to mutter a “Happy Birthday, Takeru.” with a blush decorated across his face.

Takeru smiled at this. He carefully kissed Chiaki’s forehead and whispered an “I love you too, Chiaki.”
